Advanced ocular technology automatically adjusts contrast settings to suit the light conditions.
Nikon's proven line of rangefinders gets an added boost with the RifleHunter 1000. This fast, accurate rangefinder features Nikon's new Active Brightness Control Viewfinder, an innovative technology allowing fast reads against virtually any background during the toughest lighting conditions.

In brighter conditions, the rangefinder will display the newly-designed LCD, which provides suitable contrast and readability against a variety of backgrounds, together with enhanced light transmission. In darker conditions, the rangefinder automatically turns on the orange LED illumination to the liquid crystal characters for optimum visibility, adjusting brightness as needed for appropriate contrast.

A 28% larger ocular and 23% wider field of view from prior models allows you to quickly find your target, while a clean, uncluttered display shows range out to 1,000 yards. The field-proven ID technology calculates for any shot angle up to 89 degrees. Nikon's Tru-Target mode allows the user to choose between two settings, First Target Priority or Distant Target Priority modes. First Target mode makes ranging lone animals in unobstructed situations a snap--the rangefinder measures the distance to the first target hit by the laser, even small twigs, while Distant Target mode is designed for situations where ranging animals through brush or other impediments is necessary.

The rangefinder additionally boasts Nikon's legendary multicoated optics, water- and fog-proof rugged durability, and pocket-sized portability.

A 28% larger ocular and 23% wider field of view compared to prior models allows fast target acquisition.

5Nikon 8377 Riflehunter 1000 Rangefinder
By The Simpson's
Very impressed with this product. It's simple to use and automatically measures the distance with no time wasted. Sharp and accurate, easy to use, small and comfortable in your hand, easy to store. The plus factor is that it's waterproof and doesn't fog up. It's clearness in optics is fantastic. I've owned some older models but this one is by far the best one on the market.

5Nikon Riflehunter 1000
By Barton D. Hege
I borrowed a friends Riflehunter 1000 last Dec. to use while deer hunting in Ks..I was very impressed. Not only did the orange LED display make ranging early in the morning easy but the compact and sturdy housing and light weight allowed me to kep it on a tether for quick use. I highly recommend anyone looking for a top of the line range finder with features such as I/D,Incline/Decline shooting adjustments and the LED display for low light as well as 1000 yard range to check out Nikon's Riflehunter 1000.

3Not as good as expected for the price
By Bennett Prescott
I needed a rangefinder that would reliably return 1500' readings. I was very impressed with the ProStaff 550 but was concerned that, as my needs are at the limit of its advertised range, I might not be able to get reliable readings in bright sunlight on non-reflective targets like buildings. After a lot of research I found the Riflehunter 1000 and the Monarch 1200, and the Riflehunter seemed to be just the ticket as it is a little smaller, has a better field of view, and has nearly the same range as the Monarch. As a bonus it has an illuminated reticle, and will compensate for inclination or declination and return true horizontal distance (or line of sight). The reviews weren't all positive, so I got my hands on one to try out.

Unfortunately, I am not particularly impressed. The optics are mediocre in every way, and the reticle is difficult to read. When illuminated, which is nearly all the time and not half as clever in its variation as Nikon suggest, it definitely gets a little fuzzy. While not impossible to use, it is far from the crisp and clear reticle that one may be used to from other rangefinders without this feature. When trying to pinpoint targets at many hundreds of yards this will certainly become an issue. Additionally, the beam spread of the laser is listed as something like 20 degrees. That is enormous, and gives me great concern as to how well the Riflehunter 1000 will perform on distant targets over flat ground.

While this rangefinder is not exactly bad, for the $350 street price you could do a lot better. Leupold's RX-1000, for instance, really blew me away. Unfortunately, as these products sit at the top of the "prosumer" section the next price jump is into the $800+ (and very much higher) range so consumers looking for 1000yd performance have a limited set of options without breaking the bank.
